MOTOR DEFECT
Diagnosed issue
In April 2026, Sonora detected vibration patterns indicating possible bearing or tool-related wear on an IMA processing unit motor. The system identified harmonics around 230 Hz with sidebands at shaft speed, suggesting developing mechanical deterioration.
Over the following weeks, Sonora continued monitoring the asset and repeatedly recommended inspection as elevated RMS values and harmonics persisted. Since proper diagnostics could not be performed while the motor remained installed in the production line, the motor was eventually removed and tested separately in workshop conditions.
Testing confirmed that the issue originated from the motor itself. Measurements showed significantly elevated vibration levels reaching 12.35 mm/s RMS and 3.57 g RMS. The defect was validated as a true positive.
Results
Continuous monitoring enabled early detection of the defect and provided enough confidence for maintenance teams to remove and inspect the motor before a more severe failure occurred. Sonora supported targeted diagnostics and helped confirm that the vibration source originated from the motor itself rather than surrounding process components.
