TOOL HOLDER LOOSENESS
Diagnosed issue
On September 4, 2026, Sonora detected increased harmonics around 20 Hz and 70 Hz on a HOMAG edge processing unit. RMS had been rising since August 27 and reached approximately 2.5 g – the highest level recorded during the entire monitoring period.
The vibration pattern indicated possible shaft or tool-related wear, and Sonora recommended inspecting the tool shaft. Similar behavior was also identified on the opposite side of the machine.
Four days after the notification, IKEA inspected the equipment and found a loose tool holder. The increased vibration was clearly noticeable during the physical inspection, confirming the defect detected by Sonora.
Results
Sonora detected the developing mechanical issue through rising RMS and strengthened harmonics before it was reported by the operator. The notification led to a targeted inspection, where IKEA identified a loose tool holder and confirmed the abnormal vibration.
