DISC MILL BEARING WEAR
Diagnosed issue
In March 2026, Sonora detected abnormal harmonic patterns on the motor of Disc Mill, indicating possible shaft or bearing-related wear. Although RMS values initially remained stable, harmonic analysis revealed early signs of mechanical deterioration.
Over the following weeks, Sonora continuously monitored the asset and observed steadily increasing RMS values, stronger harmonics, and a shifting energy centroid – all indicating progressive bearing degradation. The system repeatedly recommended bearing inspection and replacement.
Goodvalley confirmed that the machine exhibited increased vibration and decided to limit its operation while waiting for replacement parts. Once maintenance was completed in July, inspection revealed severely damaged bearing seals that had allowed dust to contaminate the bearing. The grease had deteriorated, and the bearing balls were completely seized.
The bearing and seals were replaced, validating Sonora’s detection as a true positive.
Results
Continuous condition monitoring enabled early detection of bearing deterioration months before maintenance could be performed. Sonora helped the maintenance team safely reduce machine usage while waiting for replacement parts, preventing an unexpected failure and supporting a planned repair.
